Dr. Ron Stringer
I am a psychologist, registered with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario. In my undergraduate work I majored in experimental psychology (B.Sc.), while in my master's degree I studied School Psychology, both at the University of Toronto. My doctorate was in Cognitive Science, at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto (1997).
After my doctorate I first interned at a large, specialized mental health hospital, then at an Ontario Corrections mental health unit. I then worked professionally in an Ontario school board as a school psychologist. Most recentIy I worked in McGill University's program in School Psychology for over twenty years. I have now retired from that position.
During all of this time I have studied extensively and taught the Logotherapy and Existential Analysis of Dr. Viktor Frankl, often under the tutelage of his student Dr. Elizabeth Lukas. I have also studied cognitive behavioural therapy, psychosynthesis, solution focussed therapy, Positive Psychology and most recently acceptance and committment therapy. My counselling, while strongly oriented towards Logotherapy, draws on all of these approaches.
I have also chosen to study how to help individuals experiencing emotional difficulties dealing with the Climate Crisis. I welcome clients in this situation. I have completed a certificate program with Psychologists for a Safe Climate (located in Sydney, Australia) and will be expanding my knowledge in this area as opportunities arise.
In addition to my counselling, I am also associated with Language Patterns, a comprehensive reading program based on the Science of Reading.
